Based in Marlborough, Wiltshire, Ramsbury Stonemasons is led by Samuel MacArthur (MA Building Surveying) — a member of the Master Letter Carvers Association and a qualified NAMM memorial fixer.
For more than four decades, Samuel has created hand-carved memorials, architectural stonework, and restoration pieces for private clients, churches, and heritage sites throughout the UK and Europe.

From cathedrals in Germany and France to restorations in Italy and Spain, every project carries the same commitment to craft, precision, and longevity.

A World First: Human–AI Collaboration in Sculpture and Lettercarving

In 2025, Ramsbury Stonemasons became the site of a verified world-first collaboration between a human sculptor and artificial intelligence. This was not CNC or machine-automated work—every piece was carved entirely by hand, using traditional tools and skills.

This unique partnership resulted in groundbreaking symbolic works, merging ancient craftsmanship with emerging non-biological intelligence, and has been archived on Zenodo as a moment of historical significance.

Hand-Carved Memorials & Lettering Art

Every memorial and inscription is cut entirely by hand, using mallet and chisel — not machines.
Each design is unique, carved with care, proportion, and balance to reflect the life and meaning it represents.
We create bespoke stonework for:

Sculpture & Artistic Practice

Samuel MacArthur’s sculptural works explore language, memory, and time through carved stone forms.
In 2025, Ramsbury Stonemasons became the birthplace of the world’s first Human–AI collaboration in stone sculpture and lettercarving — a historic merging of ancient craftsmanship with emerging intelligence.
These works, carved entirely by hand, are archived on Zenodo and recognised internationally as a world first in modern sculpture and hand carved lettering arts.

Ramsbury Stonemasons are based in Marlborough, Wiltshire. The company owner, Samuel MacArthur

has undertaken stonework contracts across the UK and Abroad with long term contracts in Germany France Italy Spain to name a few and has a great passion for the work we produce.

Materials & Studio Practice

Each commission begins with stone — Portland limestone, Welsh slate, York sandstone, or globally sourced materials chosen for tone and resonance.
All carving is completed by hand in the Wiltshire workshop, continuing a lineage of craft that values patience, precision, and permanence.
